What is KYBELLA?

KybellaPatientPRI4BeforeAfter(SideView)KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called, “double chin.”

IF YOU ARE BOTHERED BY YOUR DOUBLE CHIN, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. This condition can impact a broad range of adults, both men and women. Causes may be from aging, genetics, or weight gain. Sometimes, no matter how much you diet or exercise, the condition may not go away, and can make you look older and heavier than you really are. After being treated with KYBELLA®, patients report improvement in self-perception, feeling happier and younger, as well as feeling less embarrassed, less self-conscious, less overweight, and overall happier with their chin profile.

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot be restored or accumulate fat. It is not known if KYBELLA® is safe and effective in children less than 18 years of age or for use outside of the submental area.

ChinLiveUpWill I experience any side effects from KYBELLA?

As with other injection treatments, you may experience some temporary swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. For most patients, downtime is minimal and occurs most commonly after the first treatment. When scheduling your treatments, keep your social plans and work commitments in mind.

Prior to administering KYBELLA®, the area may be treated with ice/cold packs and or a topical numbing cream to make you more comfortable during the procedure. Some patients choose to take an over-the-counter pain reliever before their appointment. If not injected correctly, KYBELLA® can cause serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. These are not all of the possible side effects of KYBELLA®. Ask your healthcare provider for medical advice about side effects.

Dr. Howard was more understanding and sincere, than other doctors. I didn’t feel like ‘just another person’. Very comforting. A.B.

How many treatments will I need?

You and your doctor will customize your KYBELLA® treatment regimen, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile. Almost every patient requires more than one treatment session to experience positive results. Many patients see improvement in their chin contour in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. During these in-office sessions, which typically are 20-30 minutes, your physician will administer KYBELLA® into the fat under your chin using multiple injections. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be administered spaced no less than one month apart. It is important to receive the number of treatments recommended by your physician to obtain the results you desire.

How long will the results last?

When injected into the fat under your chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot be restored or accumulate fat. After the desired result is achieved, retreatment is not expected.

How much should I expect to pay for KYBELLA?

The cost for KYBELLA® is based on the size of the area and the number of injections/sessions required in order to achieve the desired result. For permanent reduction of “double chin”, most patients could expect their total overall cost to range from $2500-$5000.
